Illustration

Let’s explore.

I have a confession to make…I like to draw stuff. But even more, I love to explore when I draw. Whether bringing to life rock-slinging David vs. Goliath with a fresh pen or witnessing a sweeping desert landscape emerge from washes of paint, I often find myself running through the whirlwind of life stirring up bizarre adventures that produce unique inspirations. It’s time to dare to dare. Illustration is the unique art of bringing a story, text or idea into a visualized form. Styles, textures, colors, moods, media, tools upon tools, whether traditional or digital, all mix into the cauldron of interpretation to bring out the adventure of illustration. So browse forward brave traveler, mysterious journeys await in the pixels that follow.

Comics

Kapow!!

Did I say I like to draw stuff? And drawing comics rocks! The technical term for it is narrative art. So let’s nerd-out on this for a second. Narrative art is art that tells—or narrates—a story through a series of sequential imagery. Kaboom! And you find it everywhere and at almost all times throughout human history. It manifests itself in every kind of medium, in every culture, in every form that you can imagine. The power of a story is in how and what it makes us feel. And comics combine elements that can take you to places you never dreamed. That can be a very powerful and wonderful thing—and I love it!

Logos

Initial Impressions.

You never get a second chance to make a first…well, you know. A logo should create a mental stamp (memorable association) with a particular brand. It is the initial impression most people see of a company, like the flag of a country, but its impact depends on how it is used. Its creation needs to consider many factors—culture, color, emotion, story, distinction and more. A logo is a mark that a company can be remembered by; it should be so simple that you could draw it in the sand with a stick. You should be able to cut your logo out of a potato. Really! Think of all the things you want to do with your logo—feature it on printed pages, your website, have it emblazoned on T-shirts and display it on trade show booth signs that need to be visible from hundreds of yards away. Who knows, you may actually want to have your logo in potato form.

Graphic Design

Artistic Communication.

Graphic Design is about communicating to a targeted audience. It is the utilization of images, graphic forms and words to deliver an idea, a message or a feeling. It is a huge part of contemporary culture and is literally everywhere you look throughout modern civilizations. Street signs, smart phones, billboards, store fronts, magazines, instruction manuals, you name it, it’s everywhere. And graphic design is essential for companies and organizations all over the globe to clearly communicate with their viewers. Wowzers!

Websites

Come on in!

A good website clearly answers “Who I am,” “What I do,” and “What can you do here.” It also resonates with your audience, has a value proposition, calls visitors to action, is optimized for multiple devices, and is always changing to adapt to new design trends. A website is your front door open to the world. So give them a good experience. A well-designed site is important to building trust, communicating value, and navigating visitors to the next step. As such, good websites effectively use layout, CTA placement, whitespace, colors, fonts, and other supporting elements.

If a new visitor doesn’t like what they see, their knee-jerk reaction is to hit the “back” button. That’s right —  a lot of people still judge a book by its cover!
